4th of July
This year we decided to check out the city of Richardson’s firework show. It was held in a huge park and there were bands and bounce houses and other such festivities to start at 6:00. We knew our little ones wouldn’t be able to make it to fireworks if we got there too early, but we also weren’t sure how hard it would be to find a place to sit. So we compromised and arrived around 7:30. We found parking and seating more than ample so we set off to explore. Brenden played on the playground for awhile and then we went to find a seat. We kept thinking the park was just going to fill up at any moment.
We found our spot and spread out our blanket and snacks. Brenden ran around and Patrick chased him while Emily and I lounged on the blanket. We were having a very nice evening but I was starting to get a little annoyed that the show wasn’t scheduled to start until 9:45. What are people with kids suppose to do? Brenden was getting antsy and tired and started saying he was ready to go home. But with only about 15 minutes until the show was to start we were able to talk him into staying. It was a fantastic show. Brenden sat watching rapt for the first 15 minutes and then he came to lay on me. We made the trek back to the car and both kids were immediately asleep.
The city had the event well planned and coordinated which was really a nice change from the way these things normally go. It only took us about half an hour to get out of the park traffic and home.
It was no watching the fireworks from Liberty State Park out the door of our apartment, but it was pretty darn good.
